Kazakhstan introduces new criminal law against stalking

Kazakhstan has initiated the first criminal cases under the new law against stalking, El.kz reports.
New legal provisions aimed at protecting citizens’ personal boundaries have come into force in Kazakhstan.
The law, signed by the President, introduces for the first time criminal liability for stalking .
The article defines stalking as the unlawful pursuit of an individual through persistent attempts to establish contact or conduct surveillance against their will, causing significant harm but without the use of physical violence.
In addition, Kazakhstan has introduced criminal liability for forced marriage: offenders may face up to 2 years in prison, and up to 10 years if the crime leads to serious consequences.
The Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized that all investigations are under special supervision, and the new legal measures are designed to protect citizens’ personal freedom, dignity, and safety.
