Kazakhstan increases wheat exports to China
Vice Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Torebayev noted that Kazakhstan's export potential for grain is 12 million tons. Of these, 7-7.5 mln tonnes are wheat, 1.4 mln tonnes are barley and 300 thsd tonnes are corn. For oilseeds, the potential is estimated at more than 1 million tons,El.kz reports.
Wheat exports to China reached 538.8 thousand tons in 2023, 15 times more than last year. Total grain exports to China amounted to 1.43 million tons, which shows an increase of 5.5 times year-on-year. Kazakhstan plans to increase supplies to 1.6 million tons to China and other Asian countries.
The Vice Minister stressed the importance of resolving the issues concerning the border area, as well as licensing and quotas for the import of Kazakh grain. In addition, Kazakhstan is interested in exporting to the markets of the European Union, countries such as Italy, Latvia and Spain, as well as in restoring supplies to Iran.
Kairat Torebayev added that Kazakhstan will actively promote its wheat brand in new markets such as Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil and Malaysia, where import demand is forecast to grow.
