Kazakhstan improves position in global anti-money laundering ranking
The Basel Institute on Governance has published the annual Basel AML Index, in which Kazakhstan ranked 111th with 4.65 points, significantly improving its position, El.kz reports.
In 2023, the republic was on the 100th line with 4.71 points, and over the past four years there has been a significant breakthrough - from 73rd place in 2020 to 111th in the current year. The rating, which assesses the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) on a scale from 0 (minimum risk) to 10 (maximum risk), reflects Kazakhstan's success in this area.
Kazakhstan has surpassed such developed countries as the United States, Japan, Singapore, China, Qatar, Italy and Turkey. The top five leaders with the lowest level of risk are San Marino, Iceland, Finland, Estonia and Sweden.
In 2024, the index assessed 164 countries across 17 key indicators, divided into five areas, covering factors that affect the level of ML/TF risks.
It is noted that the improvement in Kazakhstan's position was the result of the effective work of all participants in the national system for countering ML/TF.
The Financial Monitoring Agency continues to strengthen measures in line with FATF international standards to further improve the transparency and security of the country's financial system.
