Astana will host the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which brings together leaders and heads of government of 16 countries, as well as heads of international organizations, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, El.kz reports with reference to political scientist Eduard Poletaev on Facebook.

The agenda of the event includes the topics "Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue – Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development", which reflects the main priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship. These include ensuring security, expanding economic ties, strengthening energy cooperation, digital integration, as well as cultural and environmental initiatives.

Following the summit, more than 20 documents are expected to be signed, including the program of cooperation in countering terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2025-2027, the SCO Anti-Drug Strategy for 2024-2029, as well as the Astana Declaration. This document will reflect the organisation's positions on current international and regional issues, summarize the results of the SCO's activities and determine the future directions of its development.

Eduard Poletayev noted that for Kazakhstan, the SCO is an important element of the architecture of Greater Eurasia and is considered in the context of Eurasian integration. The SCO, as an interstate structure, was able to unite countries with different cultural and civilizational codes, foreign policy guidelines and models of national development. In a relatively short period, the SCO has come a long way, becoming an integral element of the modern global political and economic world order.
