Kazakhstan has concluded 13 agreements with the EU on mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal matters. There is an intention to sign memorandums with 12 European countries, El.kz reports.

Today, at the plenary session of the Majilis, the deputies approved the draft law "On ratification of the Protocol on Amendments and Additions to the Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic on mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal matters of August 26, 1996".

During the plenary session, Deputy of the Mazhilis Yerlan Sairov drew attention to the fact that at present the issue of returning illegally withdrawn state assets from abroad is acute.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Yermukhambet Konuspayev, to date, agreements have been concluded with 13 European countries in criminal cases, including Spain, Italy, Hungary, and Romania.

"11 of them have entered into force, and with 12 states we are considering these memorandums and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the part of Kazakhstan is not the developer of such treaties, and therefore the competent authorities will conclude agreements here. The Foreign Ministry, for its part, is responsible for organizing and discussing such issues," the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
