The holy month of Ramadan in 2027 will begin on February, 8. The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan has approved the calendar of religious dates for the coming year.
The month of Ramadan will continue till Oraza Ait (Eid al-Fitr), which falls on Tuesday, March,9. Laylat al-Qadr, regarded by Muslims as the holiest night of the year, will be observed on the night of March, 5–6.
Eid al-Adha and other religious observances
Eid al-Adha (Kurban Ait) will begin on Sunday, 16 May, and last for three days. The preceding day, Saturday, will be observed as the Day of Arafah.
Before the start of Ramadan, Muslims will observe the Night of Bara’ah on the night of January, 22–23 . In summer, the faithful will celebrate Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad, on August,14 and the following day.
Will these dates be public holidays?
Under the Labour Code of Kazakhstan, the first day of Eid al-Adha is a public holiday. In 2027, it falls on Sunday, 16 May, and the day off will not be transferred to Monday.
Oraza Ait and the beginning of Ramadan are not public holidays. Employees in Kazakhstan who work a five-day week will not receive an additional day off for these religious observances.
Why the dates may change
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan explained that the dates marking the beginning of months in the Hijri calendar had been determined using data from international astronomical research centres.
The beginning of each month depends on the sighting of the new moon. Accordingly, the dates remain provisional and may shift by one day.
