Kazakhstan and Green Climate Fund strengthen their cooperation in field of renewable energy

As part of the mission in Kazakhstan of the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund Mafalda Duarte, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nyssanbayev arrived in the Karaganda region on a working visit. The purpose of the visit was to tour the Saran Solar PV Park, the first project in Kazakhstan financed by the Green Climate Fund in the field of renewable energy, El.kz reports citing the ministry's press service.

The project is being implemented under the support of co-financing from the ERBD, with a capacity of 100 MW, and it provides sustainable electricity supply and contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The event also featured the participation of the Huseyin Ozhan, Managing Director for Central Asia and Mongolia, representatives of the Karaganda region’s mayor office, and the International Center for Green Technologies.

Minister Yerlan Nyssanbayev emphasized the importance of implementing such initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality goals.

“This project demonstrates Kazakhstan's potential in developing sustainable energy and the need to expand collaboration with the Green Climate Fund for further scaling of climate projects at the regional and national levels.” he noted.

The visit of Mafalda Duarte was an important step in strengthening the ties between Kazakhstan and the Green Climate Fund, as well as in promoting sustainable development of 'green' energy in the country.
