Kazakh  short film “IT” (Animals) has been selected for the competition program of the 30th anniversary Encounters Film Festival in the United Kingdom, where it will compete for the Grand Prix and the Audience Award, El.kz reports.

The film tells the story of an 11-year-old boy who moves with his father from the city to a village. He tries to protect a stray dog from the peer cruelty but this act brings serious consequences for him.

The director and screenwriter of the film is Moldiyar Abdukadyrov. For him, participation in such a major film forum is already a victory and a source of inspiration for new projects.

Encounters is considered one of the world’s leading festivals for short films and animation, annually bringing together directors, producers, and audiences from around the globe. In 2025, it celebrates its 30th anniversary — a year when a Kazakh production has found itself in the spotlight of an international audience.
