Kazakh Senate approves amendments to law on ensuring women's rights and children safety
The bill was developed by deputies of the Mazhilis in September 2023, immediately after the Address of the Head of State to strengthen responsibility for domestic violence,El.kz reports.
"The key legislative novelties are the criminalization of domestic violence, tougher punishment for all forms of violence against children, and a whole range of preventive measures to combat domestic violence," State Counsellor Yerlan Karin wrote on his Telegram channel.
Children's Ombudsman Dinara Zakiyeva expressed her opinion on the amendments to the law. According to her, the bill provides for more than 70 amendments and "each amendment can be named after a child and a woman who died as a result of violence."
- Last year, 69 women and 7 children were killed. 342 people are subjected to domestic violence every day. This law is aimed at creating a culture of non-violence. Raising your hand against a child is a crime. Violence cannot be justified," Zakiyeva concluded.
