Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto. The parties discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation and the expansion of partnership in various sectors.
Indonesia is one of Kazakhstan’s important partners in Southeast Asia. In 2025, bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Indonesia amounted to $244.7 million. In January–March 2026, trade turnover reached $31.5 million. The basis of Kazakh exports consists of processed goods, metallurgy, and chemical products, while electronics and textiles are imported from Indonesia.
It was noted that President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto had held a series of meetings on international platforms, which gave additional impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation.
“Kazakhstan attaches great importance to expanding trade and economic ties with Indonesia. We believe there is significant potential to increase these indicators and are interested in expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation,” Olzhas Bektenov emphasized.
Airlangga Hartarto, in turn, expressed the Indonesian side’s readiness to deepen partnership with Kazakhstan, expand business contacts, and develop cooperation in promising areas.
During the meeting, the existing potential for expanding cooperation in energy, industry, agriculture and food processing, textiles, Islamic banking, digital economy, education, and tourism was highlighted.
Special attention was paid to the development of transport and logistics routes. In particular, opportunities to utilize Kazakhstan’s transit potential and the infrastructure of international transport corridors were discussed. It was emphasized that Kazakhstan offers a favorable investment climate and can serve as a platform for access to regional markets, including Central Asia, the EAEU countries, the Caucasus, and Europe.
Overall, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening bilateral economic ties between Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
