The Kazakhstan national mixed martial arts team has continued to add to the country’s medal tally at the Asian Games in Japan, El.kz reports.
Kadyrbek Shynbayev Secures Victory
Kadyrbek Shynbayev advanced to the final of the mixed martial arts competition at the Asian Games, currently being held in Aichi and Nagoya. The Kazakh athlete competed in the up to 71 kg weight category under modern MMA rules.
In the final bout, he faced Tajikistan’s Behruz Khurshedzoda. The judges unanimously awarded the victory to the Kazakh fighter by a score of 3–0.
The gold medal became Kazakhstan’s second gold medal in mixed martial arts at the ongoing Asian Games.
First Gold Medal for Kazakhstan
A day earlier, Erkingali Burkutalin achieved the same result, competing in the up to 77 kg weight category under traditional MMA rules. In the final, he faced Bahrain’s Muhammad Nabiev.
The judging panel unanimously awarded the victory to the Kazakh athlete. The final score was also 3–0.
Kazakhstan’s Overall Medal Tally in Combat Sports
With this victory, Kazakhstan’s national team has increased its gold-medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games to five. Mixed martial arts has been included in the programme of the Summer Asian Games for the first time, with Kazakh athletes immediately making their mark at the highest level of competition.
Both final bouts involving Kazakh fighters ended with an identical score of 3–0.
