Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture and Information, Arman Kyrykbayev visited the memorial complex in Daejeon, where Korean military commander General Hong Beom-do is buried, El.kz reports citing the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Arman Kyrykbayev is part of the official delegation accompanying the Head of State on his visit to South Korea.
The Minister laid flowers and paid tribute to the memory of General Hong Beom-do.
Daejeon is associated with a significant chapter in the shared history of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea. He spent the final years of his life in Kazakhstan and was buried in Kyzylorda. In 2021, with the assistance of the Kazakh side, his remains were transferred to the Republic of Korea and reinterred in Daejeon.
In 2026, five years have passed since the transfer of the General’s remains to his historical homeland. The Ministry of Culture and Information notes that his life and legacy hold a special place in the historical ties between the two countries.
Concluding his visit, Kyrykbayev left an entry in the Book of Honorary Guests.
