Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to sign law on fighting gambling addiction

At the solemn ceremony of awarding media workers of Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed concern about the growing problem of gambling addiction in the country. He stressed that gambling addiction poses a serious threat to society, destroying families, contributing to financial problems and even crime, El.kz reports with reference to Akorda.

Tokayev noted that with the development of the Internet, the problem of gambling addiction acquiring the features of a social pandemic. In response, the government has taken a number of measures, including the approval of a Comprehensive Plan to Combat Illegal Gambling and Gambling Addiction, as well as the development of a bill that is currently being considered by the Senate.

Last autumn, a special meeting of the Security Council was held on this issue. Recently, on my instructions, the Government approved a Comprehensive Plan to Counter Illegal Gambling and Gambling Addiction. In addition, I have consistently promoted the early adoption of the relevant bill," Tokayev said.

The President stressed that if the bill is adopted, he will sign it in the near future. He expressed confidence that the introduction of this law will help protect citizens, especially young people, from the dangerous influence of gambling addiction. Tokayev expressed gratitude to the deputies for their work on this important bill, which is aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of Kazakhstanis.
