Kassym-Jomart Tokayev holds meeting with Chairman of Supreme Judicial Council
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Denis Shipp. During the meeting, Denis Shipp presented a report on the results of the activities of the Supreme Judicial Council for 2023, the current state of the country's judiciary and plans for the future, El.kz reports with reference to Akorda.
Last year, the Council carried out important tasks, including the training of candidates for judges, their professional development, as well as the issues of extending and terminating the powers of current judges. This has contributed to the strengthening of the institutional foundations of the judicial system.
Tokayev was informed about the work to improve the selection of judges and ensure its transparency and efficiency. A significant increase in the number of newly arrived judges and a positive trend continued throughout 2023. The number of women judges exceeded the number of men, and the average age of a judge was 46 years with an average of 13 years.
An online broadcast of competitive procedures was introduced to ensure the openness of the selection of judges. For the first time, candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court were recommended to the President for submission to the Senate of the Parliament on an alternative basis.
The Chairman also reported on the role of the institution of forming a personnel reserve for judicial positions in connection with the introduction of election to the posts of chairmen of district courts and on the ongoing work on the legislative introduction of a mechanism for verification by the judicial jury of each canceled judicial act.
At the end of the meeting, the President instructed to continue work on the effective implementation of reforms aimed at strengthening the independence of judges and improving the quality of their selection.
