Kazakhstan and Japan have signed an agreement to provide a grant of 2 million US dollars for the implementation of a project to improve dam management, El.kz reports citing the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

The funds will be directed towards enhancing the effectiveness of flood control measures and strengthening the safety of hydraulic structures.

The project will be implemented until 2027 and includes the introduction of advanced integrated water management approaches.

The grant is provided as part of collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Last year, JICA experts conducted an assessment of 13 water management facilities in four regions of Kazakhstan that were most affected by floods.

In addition, employees of RSE "Kazvodkhoz" underwent training in Japan on issues of water safety.

According to Aslan Abdrayimov, the Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, cooperation with Japan in the water sector has strengthened since the establishment of the specialized ministry.

He noted that Japan's experience and technologies will be beneficial for Kazakhstan in ensuring protection against natural threats.
