Today, 17 August, the opening ceremony of the IV Spartakiad of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Deaflympic sports for  hearing impaired athletes was held at the Zhaiyk Arena sports complex in Uralsk.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sports and Physical Culture of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yessembayev, Director of the Sports Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities Bolatbek Duketayev, Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the W Kazakhstan region Bakdaulet Sabitov and President of the National Deaflympic Committee of  Kazakhstan Saule Shakuova.

They congratulated the athletes on the opening of the Spartakiad and wished all participants success in the competitions.

Particular attention is being paid in our country to the development of sports for persons with disabilities. In accordance with the instruction of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, four inclusive sports centres were commissioned in Astana, Kyzylorda, Aktobe and Uralsk in 2025 alone. This systematic work is creating the necessary conditions for the professional development of our athletes and their achievement of high-level results.

A notable example was the performance of Kazakhstan’s national team at the 2025 Deaflympics in Japan, where our athletes won 8 gold, 4 silver and 13 bronze medals.

“Alongside these high achievements, the number of athletes participating in Deaflympic sports is also growing every year. The participation of over 1,500 athletes from 19 regions of the country in this year’s Spartakiad is clear evidence of this trend. I am confident that this Spartakiad will introduce new sporting talent and serve as a platform for promising athletes who will go on to achieve strong results and represent Kazakhstan with distinction on the international stage,” Nurlan Yessembayev said.

The Spartakiad for athletes with hearing impairments is held once every 4 years. This year, the competitions are being held in three regions of the country across 10 sports, with 274 sets of medalsbeing contested.

The main objectives of the Spartakiad are to promote a healthy lifestyle among athletes with hearing impairments, develop Deaflympic sports in Kazakhstan, enhance the sporting skills of participants, and identify the strongest athletes for subsequent selection to the national team.

The Spartakiad will continue till 25 August.
