The safest countries for travel in 2026 remain those with stable political systems and low crime rates. However, in practice, tourists are increasingly advised to rely not only on rankings but also on the current situation, El.kz reports.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Senate, Deputy FM Arman Issetov noted that the global situation is constantly changing, so there is no universal answer to the question of safety.

What global rankings show

According to the Global Peace Index 2025–2026, Iceland, Ireland, and Austria remain the safest countries.

New Zealand and Switzerland also rank in the top five. These countries consistently demonstrate low crime rates and high levels of social stability.

Separate safety rankings for tourists highlight Singapore, Japan, and the UAE. Qatar and Andorra are also among the leaders.

What Kazakhstan’s FM advises

According to Arman Issetov, Southeast Asian countries can currently be considered among the most favorable destinations for Kazakh travelers.

These include Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

“This is a very difficult question to answer right now but I believe that at the moment, for example, Southeast Asian countries may be more favorable for our tourists,” the vice minister said.

He also emphasized the importance of relying on up-to-date information, as isolated incidents can occur even in traditionally safe countries.

Which destinations are under restrictions

The Middle East remains a region of increased risk. The Foreign Ministry previously advised Kazakh citizens to refrain from traveling to several countries until the situation stabilizes.

The list included Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen.

Egypt was later removed from the list. The ministry explained that the decision was based on the current situation and the stable operation of tourist infrastructure.

Travel safety depends not only on a country’s position in rankings but also on the current geopolitical situation. Therefore, it is important to check Foreign Ministry recommendations and monitor updates before traveling.
