The capital has opened the IX International Book Exhibition-Fair. The platform brings together publishers, writers, and readers from various countries, offering a rich program from book presentations and autograph sessions to international discussions and cultural performances. The event will run from April 22 to 26, El.kz reports.
One of the region's largest literary platforms, the Astana Eurasian Book Fair, has begun its work in Astana. Over the course of five days, dozens of events will take place here: presentations of new editions, meetings with authors, workshops, quizzes, and international cultural sessions.
This year, special attention is paid to the development of reading culture and the strengthening of international ties within the book industry. As Vice-Minister of Culture and Information Ali Rustam noted, holding the fair is of strategic importance:
"Today, in an era of rapid change, it is especially important to strengthen the place of books and reading in society. The Astana Eurasian Book Fair will become one of the most prominent events in Astana."
According to him, the exhibition is part of a large-scale "Book Week," during which about a hundred events are being held across the country aimed at popularizing reading and intellectual development.
Poet Galym Zhailybay emphasized the role of literature in modern society. In his view, such events help preserve cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations.
"The book has always held a special place in the life of the Kazakh people. It is the book that plays a major role in educating the younger generation and shaping the mindset and spiritual world of an individual."
From Classics to Modern Bestsellers
The fair's program covers a wide range of topics and genres. On the very first day, visitors were able to attend Classic Literature Day, presentations of new books by Kazakhstani and foreign authors, and thematic meetings. Books on culture and history, children's literature, and modern author projects garnered particular interest.
These include books on traditions, national cuisine, as well as fiction and educational publications. Furthermore, international sessions featuring representatives from Turkey, Russia, Spain, and other countries are being held, transforming the venue into a space for intercultural dialogue.
A Platform for Dialogue and New Ideas
One of the key events will be the award ceremony for the winners of the national "Ulttyk Kitap" (National Book) competition, which annually recognizes the country's best publishing projects.
The organizers note that the exhibition is not only a book fair but also a venue for professional networking. The program includes B2B meetings for publishers, discussions on translation programs, and the development of cooperation in the creative industries.
Organizers are confident that the Astana Eurasian Book Fair will serve not only as a platform for discovering new books but also as a significant step in the development of Kazakhstan's book industry.
