How many ethnic Kazakhs returned to homeland during years of independence
Since 1991, 1,123,200 ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the republic. As of September 1, 2023, 16,026 ethnic Kazakhs have reunited with their historical homeland this year and received the status of kandas, El.kz reports.
Half (53.6%) of relatives who have come to Kazakhstan since the beginning of the year came from Uzbekistan, 19.6% from China, 10.9% from Mongolia, 7.8% from Russia, 5.9% from Turkmenistan and 2.2% from other countries.
Measures of state support are proposed in the form of a subsidy to kandas - simultaneously in the amount of 70 MCI 241.5 thousand tenge) for each family member; for renting housing and paying for utilities - assistance is provided in the amount of 15 to 30 MCI (from 51.7 to 103.5 thousand tenge) per year.
