Heads of Government of Kazakhstan and Russia discuss issues of trade and economic cooperation

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov made a working visit to Moscow at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, El.kz cites primeminister.kz.

During the negotiations, the heads of government discussed issues of current trade and economic cooperation and the implementation of agreements concluded between the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The parties identified joint actions in trade and investment, industrial cooperation, energy, agriculture, civil aviation, as well as transit and transport cooperation. In addition, they discussed co-operation in the cultural and educational spheres.

Olzhas Bektenov noted the positive pace of development of industrial cooperation and trade interaction. Currently, business entities of the two countries are implementing 135 projects worth $26.5 billion. 67 joint projects worth $14 billion in key sectors of the economy, including machine building, metallurgy and chemical industry, are being developed. More than 11,000 jobs will be created through joint efforts.

"Relations between our countries are developing fruitfully across the entire spectrum of trade, economic and cultural co-operation. Industrial co-operation is an important area. It has already become a "hallmark" of successful bilateral cooperation. The governments of our countries will make every effort to implement the agreements reached by the leaders of our countries," the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov said.

Head of the Government of Kazakhstan stressed the need to accelerate and synchronise work on modernisation of checkpoints on the Kazakhstan-Russian state border. Within the framework of phased work until the end of 2027, 29 checkpoints will be reconstructed out of 30, determined by the workload. These measures will facilitate transit and increase capacity along the entire length of the common border.

Attention was also focused on expanding the potential of the international corridor "North-South", the development of transport artery with intensive use of the railway section "Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran".

The Kazakhstan side also voiced promising areas for intensifying cooperation in the agricultural sector with a priority on deep processing of agricultural products.

For his part, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin indicated readiness to work actively for the implementation of all decisions and agreements reached at the level of heads of state.

"We give priority attention to strengthening relations with Kazakhstan on the principles of mutual respect, trust and strategic partnership. Large-scale projects in industry, energy, medicine, transport infrastructure, digital technologies are being implemented. I am confident that Russia and Kazakhstan have a huge potential for co-operation in transport and logistics. The most important transit routes in Eurasia pass through the territories of our countries," Mikhail Mishustin said.

The parties noted the importance of further strengthening interregional co-operation, as well as cooperation in the field of education.

Following the talks, the heads of government reaffirmed their intention to maintain a high pace of joint work across the whole spectrum of interstate relations.
