Greeting the guest, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the important role of the World Anti-Doping Agency as a key institution in the global system for combating doping in sports. He noted that Witold Bańka’s visit to Astana marks an important step toward expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and WADA.
The Head of State praised the agency’s firm stance on addressing systemic violations and upholding unified standards of clean sport.
According to Tokayev, this is especially important not only for athletes but also for millions of fans around the world.
Currently, an anti-doping laboratory operates under Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports — the only one of its kind in Central Asia. Based on this laboratory, a Regional Anti-Doping Organization has been established, bringing together Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Afghanistan.
For his part, WADA President Witold Bańka expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s support of the agency’s initiatives and noted the high level of cooperation with national sports institutions.
The participants of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to developing long-term cooperation and further strengthening Kazakhstan’s status as a responsible and reliable partner of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded WADA President Witold Bańka the Order of Dostyk (Friendship), 2nd class, in recognition of his contribution to the development of sports in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
