President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan Gennady Golovkin has been officially included in the list of candidates for the position of Vice President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association for Asia and Europe, El.kz reports.
Golovkin has been registered as a candidate for election to the ISSA Executive Committee for the 2026–2029 term. The relevant list has already been circulated to the National Olympic Committees that are members of the Association.
The elections will be held on 12 September 2026 as part of the ISSA General Assembly in Taif, Saudi Arabia. The election results will determine the new composition of the organization’s Executive Committee.
About ISSA
The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association brings together the National Olympic Committees of countries that are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. One of ISSA’s flagship sporting events is the Islamic Solidarity Games.
The first Islamic Solidarity Games were held in Saudi Arabia in 2005. Initially, the competition was open exclusively to men; however, the programme has since expanded and now includes women’s and para-sport competitions.
Golovkin’s international activities
Following his retirement from professional boxing, Gennady Golovkin continued his career in sports administration. He currently serves as President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan and heads the international boxing organisation World Boxing.
In June 2026, Golovkin was also inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. During his boxing career, he became a world champion and won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Athens.
