From cancer and diabetes diagnostics to a super-platform for teachers: Kazakhstan presents TOP AI projects

The finals of the Alem.ai Battle national competition were held at the alem.ai International Center for Artificial Intelligence. In this article El.kz reviews winners and the projects set to become the future of Kazakhstani AI.

The competition received 830 applications from all regions of Kazakhstan. 20 projects reached the finals, five in each of the four categories: school students, university students, startups, and scientific teams. Participants presented their developments to jury composed of representatives from venture capital funds, technology companies, and government agencies. The total prize fund amounted to 25 mln tenge.

The Winners

In the AI Young Talents category for school students, the winner was the SuGuard team with their AI system for non-invasive glucose monitoring and early detection of diabetes risk.

In the AI Driving Power category for university students, first place went to Ustaz AI, a platform for teachers that automates the creation of educational materials and learning management.

In the AI Future Builders category for startups, the winner was NCSpeech, a decentralized service for SuperApps that collects AI datasets via WebView through user participation.

Finally, in the AI Innovators category for science, the top prize went to Robio, an AI-based hardware solution for the precise diagnosis of breast cancer.

From Education to Medicine

The finalists presented projects in education, medicine, and digital services. School students showcased platforms for learning artificial intelligence, gaming solutions with adaptive plots, and technologies to assist people with visual impairments. University students and startups focused on applied developments, ranging from telemedicine to workflow automation.

Voices of the Finalists

Finalists noted that the competition serves as a growth catalyst for tech teams and an opportunity to enter the international market.

"We work on voice technologies and data collection for training AI models this is the infrastructure side of artificial intelligence. Our team consists of 15 people, and we are developing projects in both Kazakhstan and Malaysia," said Dmitriy Sadzhiev, founder of NCSpeech.

Vasiliy Terentyev, founder of the VR Aigul project, also spoke about new directions in AI product development.

"We created a VR assistant that understands human emotions. We are currently entering the corporate sector, but our global mission is to create an assistant that people can trust and that helps them cope with loneliness," he noted.

The Purpose of Competition 

According to Ashimbek Abilgazinov, Director of the Business Programs Office at Astana Hub, the key goal of the competition is to demonstrate the potential of domestic developers.

"It is important to show the strong solutions already being created in Kazakhstan. Today, we see young teams demonstrating a high level of expertise and real results," he emphasized.

Alem.ai Battle is establishing itself as a key national platform where the future leaders of the artificial intelligence industry are formed. Here, ideas turn into real technological solutions, and young teams get the chance to make a name for themselves across the country. The competition not only provides access to expert evaluation but also serves as a point of growth from which promising developments move to the next stage: implementation and scaling.
