Development of transit and logistics sector in focus of Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan relations
A working meeting was held between the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Beibut Atamkulov, and the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ilhom Mahkamov, El.kz cites MFA.
During the meeting, the results of cooperation in the transit, transport, and logistics sectors for 2024 were reviewed, along with the progress of implementing instructions and agreements reached during meetings and visits of the Heads of State and Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The parties discussed key areas of interaction, including road and rail transportation as well as air connectivity between the two countries. Attention was paid to the dynamic development of flights between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, including plans to open new routes, which will strengthen transportation and tourism ties between the states.
An important topic of discussion was addressing issues faced by road carriers, including the creation of favorable working conditions and infrastructure modernization. Additionally, the synchronization of operations during peak periods, the enhancement of checkpoint throughput, and the optimization of traffic flow were considered in line with international standards.
The positive dynamics of road freight transportation were highlighted as an indicator of growing efficiency in bilateral cooperation. Moreover, the discussions included tariff measures aimed at increasing mutual trade volumes and prospects for expanding freight transportation through Kazakhstan’s seaports, such as Aktau and Kuryk, with a focus on developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants emphasized the need for further development and modernization of transportation infrastructure between the two countries. Special attention was given to improving throughput and refining logistical processes in border areas.
