A married couple from Almaty, Maksim and Alina Pak reached the Indonesian island of Bali after traveling by bicycle for 9 months. Over the course of the journey, they covered approximately 11,000 km across several Asian countries, El.kz reports.
From Almaty to Bali by bicycle
Maksim and Alina began their journey on 3 October 2025. Without professional athletic training, they set out to fulfill a long-held ambition of reaching Bali exclusively by bicycle.
Their route passed through Kazakhstan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. During the expedition, the couple covered approximately 11,000 kilometers.
Health challenges and financial difficulties along the way
The journey lasted 291 days. Throughout the expedition, the couple faced illness, financial difficulties, and emotional exhaustion. Despite these challenges, they continued their journey and successfully reached their final destination.
Maksim Pak announced the completion of the cycling expedition on social media.
“Almaty to Bali by bicycle. 291 days. We made it. We are grateful to everyone who was part of this journey to those who supported us, believed in us, helped us, welcomed us into their homes, left encouraging comments, contributed donations, and shared advice. This achievement belongs to you as well. You have been our strength and our motivation.
During these 9 months, we experienced joyful, exciting, difficult, and challenging moments. We overcame them thanks to each other and to all of you.
On 3 October 2025, the two of us set off from Almaty by bicycle, heading for Bali. We cycled over 7,000 km through Kazakhstan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and finally Indonesia. Now it is time to enjoy a well-earned rest in Bali.”

Throughout the expedition, Maksim and Alina regularly shared videos on TikTok and Instagram, documenting their route, daily life on the road, and encounters with local communities.
The couple’s arrival in Bali marked the successful completion of a 291-day expedition and the realization of a long-standing ambition for which they had prepared well in advance of their departure.
