A Kazakh delegation led by Yerlan Koshanov discussed expanding cooperation with the leadership of Morocco’s Parliament and Government, El.kz reports.

The official visit of a group of Mazhilis deputies headed by the Speaker of the Chamber, Yerlan Koshanov, took place on November 25 in Rabat at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Kazakh delegation held talks with the heads of both chambers of the Moroccan Parliament, as well as with the country’s Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch

During the meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, the parties discussed prospects for bilateral partnership. Yerlan Koshanov conveyed warm greetings from the President of Kazakhstan and noted that relations between the two states have strengthened significantly over the years of diplomatic ties, with inter-parliamentary dialogue becoming an important element of cooperation.

The Mazhilis Speaker emphasized the need for active exchange of legislative experience, regular meetings between parliamentary friendship groups, and stronger interaction between relevant committees. According to him, such platforms help bring the countries’ positions closer and deepen ties between their peoples.

In response, Rachid Talbi Alami praised Kazakhstan’s political reforms. He noted that the reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev have given the country development momentum and created new opportunities for the parliamentary system. The Moroccan side expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation in all areas, stressing that Morocco could become a “gateway to the African market” for Kazakhstan.

A more detailed discussion on inter-parliamentary cooperation continued at the meeting with the Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid.

He recalled that the visits in 2014 laid the foundation for the current partnership and underscored the importance of Koshanov’s official visit. The Moroccan side expressed its willingness to further develop contacts and use political dialogue to implement joint agreements.

Yerlan Koshanov’s meeting with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch focused on economic issues. The parties discussed expanding trade, cooperation in AI, agriculture, logistics, and transport. Special attention was given to the development of the Middle Corridor route, which opens new pathways for international transportation.

They also explored prospects for cooperation in education, healthcare, tourism, and culture. It was noted that the visa-free regime that came into force this year and the discussion of direct flights create strong potential for increased ties between citizens of the two countries.

At the end of the visit, the Mazhilis delegation laid flowers at the Mausoleum of Mohammed V paying tribute to the founders of the Moroccan state.
