An international academic conference dedicated to the translation legacy of Mukhtar Auezov and the study of his literary works was held in Almaty, El.kz reports citing the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was held at the Auezov House Scientific and Cultural Centre as part of the traditional 22nd Auezov Readings. This year, the conference was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Yevgeniya Lizunova, a literary scholar who made a significant contribution to the study of Kazakh literature.
The main focus of the conference was the literary legacy of Mukhtar Auezov in translation. Participants discussed Auezov’s own work as a translator, the specific challenges involved in rendering his works into other languages, and the international reception of Kazakh literary classics.
Particular attention was paid to preserving national cultural identity, historical accuracy and the distinctive features of the author’s language in translation. Researchers also examined the scholarly works of Yevgenia Lizunova and her contribution to the development of Auezov studies.
The conference brought together scholars from Kazakhstan, Armenia and Uzbekistan. International experts presented research on Auezov’s literary legacy and its place within the international cultural landscape.
