Astana to host chess tournament for journalists and bloggers

In honor of Media Workers' Day, the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, in partnership with Qazcontent JSC, will hold the QAZCONTENT OPEN 2026 chess tournament, El.kz reports.

The tournament is set to take place on June 20 at the Spaces co-working area in Astana. Participant registration begins at 09:00 a.m.

Who Can Participate

Journalists, employees of television, print, radio, and online media, as well as bloggers and influencers, are invited to participate. The tournament is designed for media professionals who want to test their skills at the chessboard.

The organizers have established specific eligibility criteria. The tournament is open to players with a FIDE blitz rating no higher than 2000, provided they are not professional chess players and are not engaged in coaching.

Tournament Format

QAZCONTENT OPEN 2026 will be conducted according to the Swiss system across 7 rounds. The Swiss-Manager program will be used for pairings and results calculation.

Following the main stage, the top four participants will advance to the semifinals. They will then compete in a knockout system.

Prizes

The winner of the tournament will receive 500,000 tenge. The prize for second place is 200,000 tenge, and third place will receive 100,000 tenge.

Winners will also be awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts. All results will be published on the international chess platform Chess-Results.com.

How to Register

To participate, you must register on the website arshat.kz/chess.html. The deadline for applications is June 18 at 6:00 p.m.

The organizers invite media representatives to spend the day with colleagues and like-minded individuals. Media Workers' Day in Kazakhstan is celebrated on June 28.
