Astana hosts 1st ever Republican Olympiad on AI among schoolchildren
The first ever Republican Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence - AI Olymp - was held in Astana,El.kz reports citing the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
40 schoolchildren of grades 9-12 from different regions of Kazakhstan took part in the intellectual competition. All of them showied a high level of expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and programming.
The format of the Olympiad included two five-hour rounds, as well as an educational program with lectures by leading experts in the field of artificial intelligence. Half of the participants were awarded medals and valuable prizes to maintain motivation and stimulate further development in the field of AI.
According to the results of the Olympiad, 12 strongest schoolchildren were invited to training camps. On their basis, the national team of Kazakhstan will be formed to participate in the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), which will be held in August 2025 in Beijing.
Minister of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev noted that AI Olymp has become an important part of the strategy to train future specialists capable of shaping the digital future of the country:
"Today's participants are tomorrow's leaders in technological transformation. Our task is to create conditions for their knowledge and potential to develop in Kazakhstan."
President of the Federation for Competitive Programming Bagdat Mussin stressed that AI Olymp is not a one-time initiative, but the beginning of systematic work to train young AI talents.
The closing ceremony was attended by key representatives of government agencies and the IT sphere, who expressed confidence that Kazakhstan will perform well in the international arena and continue to strengthen its position in the field of digital technologies.
