The Armenian government approved the draft law of Armenia on the launching of the process of the country’s accession to the European Union, El.kz cites news.am.

The matter was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, who noted as follows: "As a citizen's initiative, a draft law on the start of the process of Armenia's accession to the EU has been submitted for the NA [i.e. the National Assembly] discussion, and now the government must express a position. We propose to express a positive position based on several circumstances."

And Mirzoyan listed some of them. "In recent years, Armenia and the EU have had quite intense and dynamic relations. They have had a very rich content and also covered various domains. The EU has expressed its strong political support for Armenia's democracy on various occasions. As a matter of fact, the EU has been engaged in ensuring the security environment around Armenia. I mean the deployment of the EU civilian monitoring mission. The EU has also expressed its readiness to support the strengthening of Armenia's economic resilience. Obviously, the EU has very rich democratic traditions, strong democratic institutions, a free competitive environment, modern economy, advanced, developed science. You, Mr. Prime Minister, have also stated in the European Parliament that Armenia is ready to be as close to the EU as the EU considers it possible. We have seen the signs of this possibility as well. I mean the start of [EU] visa liberalization and a number of other tools that have been used or are being discussed with the EU.

Based on all this, we propose a positive response. Of course, we also have some proposals which are mainly related to legal techniques," stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
