Temu and Apple ranked among the top three largest payers of the so-called “Google Tax” in Kazakhstan, El.kz reports.

In 2025, foreign internet companies transferred 48.6 billion tenge in value-added tax (VAT) to Kazakhstan’s budget for providing digital services and online sales. This tax, known as the “Google Tax,” has been in effect since 2022 and applies to foreign IT companies offering services to Kazakhstani users.

According to the State Revenue Committee, a total of 118.4 billion tenge has been collected since the tax was introduced. Currently, 118 foreign companies are registered for this tax, with 20 new firmsjoining in 2025, including Chess.com, OpenAI, Canva, Microsoft Ireland, and Canyon Bicycles.

The top three taxpayers this year were:

Valve Corporation — 8.6 billion tenge;

Apple — 8 billion tenge;

Temu — 6.2 billion tenge.

According to committee representatives, such measures help adapt the tax system to the realities of the digital economy and ensure tax fairness between foreign corporations and local companies.
