200 deaths happen in workplace every year in Kazakhstan
Every year, about 200 people lose their lives in Kazakhstan, and more than 900 people become disabled, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Tamara Duisenova said in response to a request from deputies. Most of the victims have families who need financial support, El.kz reports.
As part of compulsory insurance against accidents at work (CAI) in 2022, more than 3000 Kazakhstanis received insurance payments totaling 6.1 billion tenge.
Only about 32.5% of legal entities with private ownership have entered into CAI agreements. Since the beginning of 2022, more than 120 thousand personal notifications have been sent to employers about the need to conclude such contracts.
For non-compliance with the requirements for concluding CAI contracts, fines are provided, which vary depending on the size of the enterprise. However, labor inspectors seek first of all to explain the legislation to entrepreneurs and prevent them from being held administratively liable.
The Law on Compulsory Insurance of Employees against Accidents was adopted in 2005. Within the framework of this law, the employee's lost income as a result of an accident and additional costs associated with treatment, rehabilitation and retraining for another profession are compensated.
