Year of AI in Almaty: technology, artists, and support for referendum

A large-scale youth concert titled Jas Stars was held in Almaty, marking the officially declared “Year of Artificial Intelligence.” The event brought together over  5,000 participants and served as a platform for expressing active civic engagement in support of the upcoming national referendum.

The concert was attended by young residents of the city, civic activists, and members of the public. As part of the program, special attention was given to explaining the significance of the draft of the new Constitution and the importance of citizen participation in the referendum scheduled for March 15. Speakers emphasized that civic responsibility and participation in voting represent a meaningful contribution by every citizen of Kazakhstan to the country’s continued development.

The festive atmosphere of the evening was created by performances from popular representatives of Kazakhstan’s music scene.

A special highlight of the program was the appearance of robots, which became full participants in the show, along with the Almaty snow leopard mascot Adilet, who staged a friendly battle with the concert participants. During the event, a Robo-DJ named Temirbek professionally mixed modern music, creating a high-energy atmosphere and lifting the audience’s spirits.

Another bright moment was the performance of two dancing robots. Their movements were synchronized as they performed choreographed routines alongside the artists, adapting to the tempo and rhythm of the music. The robots did not merely repeat movements mechanically - they interacted with the audience, greeted guests, responded to applause, and created the effect of a “living” digital presence on stage.

During the event, public figures addressed the audience, noting the importance of the political reforms underway in the country and calling on citizens to take an active part in the upcoming vote.

Actor and TV host Bakhtiyar Baiserik addressed the city’s youth, emphasizing the importance of the forthcoming referendum.

“Our strength lies in unity. The country’s development begins with the responsibility of each of us. If we want to see Kazakhstan strong, modern, and prosperous, we must take part in the processes that shape its future. The referendum is an opportunity to express your opinion, and the voice of young people is especially important here, because it is you who will build the country of tomorrow. Therefore, I urge everyone on March 15 to support the referendum,” he said.

According to the organizers, such open platforms help consolidate society around key socio-political processes, foster a culture of participation, and strengthen civic responsibility.

According to Serik Yesmatov, a deputy of the Almaty city maslikhat, the referendum on the draft of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan is an important stage in the country’s development. He noted that the Basic Law defines the foundations of the state, enshrines the principle of popular sovereignty, and guarantees the protection of human rights and dignity.

“March 15 is a day of responsibility and choice. The future is created through our participation. If justice, stability, and the future of our children matter to us, we must come and vote. Every vote counts,” Serik Yesmatov emphasized.

At the conclusion of the concert, the organizers once again called on the residents of Almaty to take part in the national referendum on March 15 and to make a conscious choice that will determine the future of the country.
