WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus unofficially visited Kazakhstan. He arrived in Almaty on Aug. 3 and met with the country’s Healthcare Minister Azhar Giniyat, Almaty Akim (mayor) Yerbolat Dossayev, among other senior officials.

The intention to learn the Kazakh language was told by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, El.kz reports with reference to Almaty.tv.

I have been visiting Kazakhstan 2 times. For the first time I went to Almaty in 2017. On my second visit, I met with a well-known doctor Toregeldy Sharmanov as part of a conference on primary health care. At that time, my family had no ties with Kazakhstan. In 2022, we have become related. I'm very happy about that. My son`s parents in law lives here. And this means that now Kazakhstan is my home. Soon my grandson will start talking. And I have to speak to him in his native language," Tedros said.
