The Ministry of Digital Development urges citizens to check their phones before purchasing, El.kz reports.

The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan reminded citizens of the importance of verifying the IMEI code before buying a new smartphone. This helps avoid purchasing stolen or unregistered devices.

The IMEI can be found by dialing *#06# on the phone, checking the code on the box or the device itself, or verifying it on the official website imei.kz.

“Checking the IMEI in advance is the most reliable way to ensure that the device is legally registered and will function without restrictions,” the ministry noted.

Starting from October 2025, Kazakhstan has begun blocking smartphones that have not passed official verification. The new regulations apply only to devices imported after March 24, 2025. Phones already listed in the identification code database were automatically added to the “white list” and continue to operate without restrictions.

The Ministry emphasized that these measures aim to enhance security, combat fraud, and create fair conditions in the technology market.
