What the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported
The Ministry confirmed the deaths of Akzhan Bokhanova and Zhuldyz Bokhanova. The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Dubai is maintaining contact with the families and providing consular and legal assistance.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan expresses its sincere condolences to the family members and relatives of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akzhan Bokhanova and Zhuldyz Bokhanova, who died in the city of Sharjah (UAE). The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Dubai is providing all necessary consular and legal assistance, including support with the processing of relevant documents and engagement with the competent authorities of the UAE regarding the circumstances of the citizens’ deaths,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press service told Kazinform.
Diplomatic representatives are also assisting the family in preparing the necessary documents for the repatriation of the deceased to Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it remains in contact with the relatives and is providing the necessary assistance within the scope of its mandate.
What relatives say
According to Tengrinews.kz, the women were in Sharjah for work. Their relatives said they were born in 2006 and 2004 and had planned to return to Kazakhstan in late August or early September.
The women had been out of contact for about a week. Relatives told journalists that they were subsequently informed that two bodies had been found.
“We searched for them everywhere and thought they might be at the immigration police. But yesterday we were informed that two bodies had been found and that they belonged to our sisters. We were also told that the suspect had been detained and that he was also from Kazakhstan,” the relatives said.
The competent authorities of the UAE are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
