Trade, drones, education, and uranium: What agreements Kazakhstan and Turkey to sign?

On July 29, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is set to pay an official visit to Turkey at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart  Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This visit will be a significant step aimed at further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two states, BAQ.KZ reports.

During the official visit, the main focus is on economic cooperation. Currently, trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey are developing dynamically. In 2023, trade turnover between the two countries reached USD 6 billion. In 2024–2025, this figure is expected to remain at around USD 5.5–6 billion.

The main goal of the bilateral talks is to increase mutual trade volume to USD 10 billion by 2030. To achieve this, concrete measures have been outlined, including the implementation of investment projects, the development of deep industrial processing, and the expansion of logistics infrastructure. Turkey is among Kazakhstan’s top five trading partners and is considered one of its key investors.

In 2024–2025, investments attracted from Turkey amount to approximately USD 5 billion, while Kazakhstani investments in the Turkish economy exceed USD 2 billion. Currently, over 3,500 enterprises with Turkish capital are operating in Kazakhstan. Of these, 78 projects have already been implemented, and 39 are in the process of being realized. The total value of these projects amounts to several bln dollars, economist Bauyrzhan Iskakov noted.

According to him, the official visit will aim to deepen cooperation in such key areas as economy and investment, transport and logistics, energy and mining, education, science and culture, and defense and security.
