President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived in Ankara to participate in the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

The visit coincides with the celebrations marking the 103rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had earlier stated that Ankara would celebrate the occasion together with guests from the Turkic world. The Summit is being held under the theme “Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Action”.

Bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Türkiye have made significant progress this year. In May, during the Turkish President’s visit to Astana, the two heads of state signed the Declaration on Eternal Friendship and Enhanced Strategic Partnership and agreed to pursue joint projects along the Middle Corridor.

Trees planted at the Alley of the Turkic World

One of the first events on the programme was a tree-planting ceremony. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev joined the Heads of State of OTS member countries at the Alley of the Turkic World in Beştepe Park. The national cultural installations along the alley commemorate the common historical roots of Turkic peoples while showcasing the diversity of their traditions.

In Astana, the inauguration of the alley is regarded as a symbolic embodiment of the Summit’s theme. Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to cultural and humanitarian ties, the preservation of shared heritage and intercultural dialogue. In Kazakhstan’s view, the historical unity  among Turkic peoples should serve as a foundation for constructive joint efforts.

Solidarity and Sovereignty

Kazakhstan views the theme of the current Summit as an opportunity to advance Turkic cooperation beyond shared history and culture towards concrete joint initiatives. For Astana, it is essential that the unity of the Turkic world strengthen solidarity among states while ensuring full respect for their sovereignty, national identity and mutual interests.

Kazakhstan was among the founding members of the Organization and has consistently supported its development. Over the years, the OTS has evolved into an established platform for political dialogue, supported by specialized working mechanisms and institutions. In Kazakhstan’s view, the Organization’s further development should be guided by a practical approach and mutual benefit.

Trade and the Middle Corridor

Kazakhstan identifies economic cooperation as one of the key pillars of Turkic integration. From January through July this year, the country’s trade turnover with OTS member states amounted to USD 9.7 bln.

Significant potential for further growth remains. Astana identifies the removal of trade and administrative barriers, expansion of non-resource exports, promotion of entrepreneurship and stronger business ties as key priorities. The Turkic Investment Fund provides financing support for joint projects.

The Middle Corridor occupies a prominent place on the agenda, providing Turkic states with access to major intl markets. Kazakhstan is prioritizing the development of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, increasing the route’s capacity and coordinating logistics with transit countries. Reduced transit times and transportation costs, digital solutions are expected to make the route more reliable and competitive.

Focusing on the Quality of Implementation

Kazakhstan associates the next stage of the OTS’s development with the quality of implementation of its initiatives and their tangible benefits for citizens and the economy. Over 30 working groups operate within the Organization, covering areas such as trade, tourism, agriculture, healthcare and security. Astana advocates greater coordination of their activities, the elimination of overlapping mandates and the effective implementation of previously adopted decisions.

At the Ankara Summit, the Kazakh side expects agreement on specific priorities for the period ahead. In Astana’s view, the Organization’s work should deliver measurable results for its member states and their citizens.
