Tokayev holds meeting with NSC Chairman

Kazakh Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Chairman of the National Security Committee Yermek Sagimbayev, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The President was briefed about the main activities of the Committee in 2023 as well as plans for the upcoming period.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed that last year the NSC units at an early stage prevented 2 terrorist attacks in the country and 3 actions together with foreign special services on the territory of foreign states. 43 persons were convicted of terrorist and extremist crimes. During the year, 208 command and staff and 196 operational-tactical anti-terrorist exercises were conducted under the coordination of the Committee.

Yermek Sagimbayev reported on the results of work to ensure economic security and counter systemic corruption. The total effect of the measures taken exceeded 1.5 trillion tenge, including the return of more than 680 billion tenge to the state budget.

In addition, it was reported that together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the activities of 15 organized criminal groups were suppressed, as well as 681 caches of weapons were identified and more than 85 thousand munitions.

In the area of countering drug trafficking, 36 laboratories were liquidated, 34 international and 32 regional drug channels were suppressed, and 3.6 tons of drugs were seized.

A number of operations were carried out by the NSC together with foreign partners within the framework of international cooperation.

In the field of protection of the State Border, more than 31 thousand offenders were detained, 739 attempts to transport weapons, munitions and drugs, as well as the movement of currency and gold in the amount of 11.7 billion tenge and goods in the amount of 12.6 billion tenge were suppressed.

Following the meeting, the President gave a number of specific instructions on the activities of the national security bodies.
