The international project “Silk Way Star” was launched in Beijing, El.kz reports.
On August 25, the SCO Forum on Humanitarian Exchange 2025 was held in the Chinese capital under the motto “Harmony and Unity: Creating the Future Together.” Kazakhstan was represented at the event by the delegation of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Forum participants discussed the role of the media in the common humanitarian agenda, strengthening partnership and trust among SCO member states. Particular attention was given to new technologies – artificial intelligence, big data, and multimedia formats that are transforming today’s communication landscape.
The highlight of the event was the official announcement of the launch of the international music competition “Silk Way Star.” The project is a joint initiative of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of Kazakhstan and China Media Group (CMG).
Head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Li Shulei emphasized that the scale of “Silk Way Star” reflects the high level of cultural cooperation between China and Kazakhstan. Director of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex of Kazakhstan, Raushan Kazhibayeva, noted that the project has become a new platform for uniting countries and peoples through art.
CMG President Shen Haixiong added that the first season will be broadcast on CCTV-3, while the second is planned to be filmed in China.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants stressed that the launch of the project is of particular importance on the eve of the SCO Summit, as it strengthens cultural and humanitarian cooperation among the countries of the region.
Representatives from 12 countries are taking part in the competition: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and South Korea. The first recordings will begin on August 26, and the final will take place on November 22, broadcast live on the “Jibek Joly / Silk Way” channel as well as on national channels of the participating countries.
“Silk Way Star” is already being called a new cultural brand of Eurasia, uniting millions of viewers and shaping a shared media space across the region.
