SCO member states unite to protect environment

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zulfiya Suleimenova took part in the IV Meeting of Heads of Ministries and Departments of the SCO Member States responsible for environmental protection (India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It should be noted that from July 2023 to July 2024, the chairmanship of the SCO is transferred to Kazakhstan from India. The agenda of the Chairmanship will focus on the joint efforts of the Member States to address the challenges of the environmental and energy agenda.

Representatives of participating countries noted in their speeches that the world is facing unprecedented threats to wildlife, and it is necessary to take global collective action, taking into account national conditions, policies and priorities to address these threats. We also work together to prevent wildlife crime, including forest fires, illegal trade in protected species of wild fauna and flora.

In addition, issues of combating climate change at the global level were discussed.

At the end of her speech, Z. Suleimenova noted: "I am sure that today's meeting will be a good impetus for improving the activities of the SCO in the field of environmental protection and the implementation of the tasks assigned to us by the Heads of our countries." She wished all participants fruitful work and expressed hope for further mutually beneficial cooperation.
