Saudi Arabia builds world’s 1-st kilometer-high skyscraper

Construction of the Jeddah Tower mega-skyscraper continues in Saudi Arabia. Upon completion, it will become the tallest building in human history. The tower's height is expected to exceed one kilometer more than 170 meters taller than the famous Burj Khalifa. El.kz reports.

Construction has reached a new stage. According to the developer, the concrete structure has surpassed the 400-meter mark, and workers are currently on the 101st floor. The pace of construction is being described as record-breaking, with a new floor added approximately every 3 to 5 days.

A Tower Built for Records

Approximately 5,200 workers and engineers are permanently deployed at the site.

The skyscraper is being built based on a design by the architectural firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture - the same team previously involved in the creation of the Burj Khalifa.

The lower levels of the building have already begun to be clad in energy-efficient glass. When finished, the tower will not only be the tallest structure on the planet but also one of the most technologically advanced objects in the world.

What’s Inside the One-Kilometer Skyscraper?

Jeddah Tower will house a hotel, offices, luxury apartments, and retail spaces. One of its standout features will be a giant observation deck roughly 30 meters in diameter. It will protrude from the upper section of the building at a height of approximately 600 meters.

To facilitate movement within the skyscraper, 56 ultra-high-speed elevators will be installed, reaching speeds of up to 12 meters per second.

The project is estimated to cost between $1.2 billion and $1.9 billion. Construction is scheduled to be fully completed by August 2028.

Significance of the Project

Jeddah Tower is considered one of the key symbols of the Saudi Vision 2030 program. The country's authorities are focusing on the development of tourism, technology, and modern urban infrastructure to reduce the economy's dependence on oil revenues.

Jeddah Tower is intended to become a new global landmark and showcase the Kingdom's engineering capabilities. If the project is completed within the announced timeframe, Saudi Arabia will be the first in the world to own a  building over one kilometer high.
