Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina has moved to the top of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) live rankings at the start of the 2026 US Open, marking the first time in her career that she has reached the No. 1 position.

Rybakina currently has 7,911 points in the live rankings.

Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka is now second with 6,585 points.

Rybakina has only 230 points to defend while Sabalenka has lost approximately 2,000 points, which she must now earn again in order to retain them

What will determine the final ranking?

Rybakina begins her campaign at the 2026 US Open against 17-year-old American player Thea Frodin, who is currently ranked around No. 580 in the official WTA rankings.

The final positions in the world rankings will only be determined following the conclusion of the tournament in New York, which is being held from 23 August to 13 September.
