Quarter less money sent from Russia to Kazakhstan

According to the report on money transfers through international systems for January-May of this year, Kazakhstanis and guests of the country sent 349.2 billion tenge abroad. This number is 10.8% less than in the same period last year. Remittances received from abroad amounted to 137.6 billion tenge, which is 23% less than in January-May 2022, El.kz reports citing Ranking.kz.

Separately, in May 2023, 90 billion tenge was sent abroad, which is 17.7% more than in April of this year, but 8.5% less than in May 2022. In May 2023, 28 billion tenge was received from abroad through international money transfer systems, which is 6.5% more than in April this year, but 2.5 times less than in May 2022.

In the ranking of countries to which transfers were made from Kazakhstan through international money transfer systems, in January-May 2023, Turkey was in the lead with a volume of 89.5 billion tenge, which is 8.4% less than in the same period last year.

Turkey is followed by Russia with a volume of 89 billion tenge, which is 39.8% more than in January-May 2022. Uzbekistan closes the top three with a volume of 81.5 billion tenge, which is 13% less than a year earlier. Georgia (36.7 billion tenge), China (11.3 billion tenge) and Kyrgyzstan (10.8 billion tenge) also accounted for significant amounts.

Among the countries sending money transfers to Kazakhstan through international systems, Russia was in the lead, from where 54.9 billion tenge was received. This number, however, is 24.1% less than in January-May 2022. Uzbekistan (14.7 billion tenge), South Korea (13.9 billion tenge) and the United States (13.9 billion tenge) also accounted for significant amounts.

It should be especially noted that in May of this year, 10.6 billion tenge was transferred from Russia, which accounted for 37.8% of all transfers to Kazakhstan. A year earlier, Russia's share reached 65.9% of all transfers, and the volume amounted to 45.6 billion tenge.
