President of Kazakhstan signs Water Code

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the Water Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, El.kz reports citing Akorda.

The first block covers the protection of citizens and the economy from water scarcity, pollution and transboundary threats, and also includes measures to ensure Kazakhstan's strategic interests in the field of water resources.

The second block revises approaches to water resources management. The focus is on the priority of protection, public participation in decision-making and water basin management.

The third block is devoted to the prevention and elimination of the harmful effects of water, including flood control measures and protection against other risks.

The fourth block strengthens state regulation and control in the field of water resources.

The fifth block is aimed at ensuring the safety of hydraulic structures.
