Over 6,000 ethnic Kazakhs receive kandas status

As of May 1, 2023, 6,144 ethnic Kazakhs returned to their historical homeland and received the status of kandas. In total, 1 million 112.6 thousand ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the republic since 1991, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan

More than half of the Kandas (53.9%) who have arrived in Kazakhstan since the beginning of this year are from Uzbekistan, 19.1% from China, 12.1% from Russia, 5.6% from Turkmenistan, 5.7% from Mongolia and 1% from other countries.

The ethnic Kazakhs who arrived mainly settled in Almaty (27.2%), Mangystau (13.8%), Turkestan (6.4%), and Zhambyl (5.1%) regions, as well as in the cities of Astana (11%), Almaty (8.8%) and Shymkent (7.1%).

As of May 1 of this year, the number of ethnic migrants of working age is 68.8%, 22.9% of people are younger than able-bodied and 8.3% are pensioners.

18 % of the Kandas have higher education, 38.6 % have specialized secondary education, 37.4 %have general secondary education and 5.9 % have no education.
