Nur-Sultan hosts solemn laying of Michigan University Branch

In Nur-Sultan, a solemn laying of a branch of the University of Michigan took place, El.kz reports.

The ceremony of laying the capsule of the future university was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Eraly Tugzhanov, Minister of Higher Education and Science Sayasat Nurbek, Head of the Capital Department of Education Kasymkhan Sengaziev, representatives of the national construction company and members of the delegation of Michigan State University headed by Provost Stephen Hanson.

The campus of the new university will be located in the Yesil district, on Turan Avenue, the area of the first stage of construction is 9 hectares. In addition to educational areas, the project provides for green recreational areas, lecture halls, an amphitheater, alleys and a pier. Completion of construction is scheduled for the second quarter of 2023.

The concept involves the construction of a full-fledged campus. It is planned that within 10-20 years the built campus will involve up to 20 thousand students, which will become one of the key elements of the educational cluster of Nur-Sultan.

According to the development director of the construction company Ayan Zikerin, the university will train highly qualified personnel of international level in the field of education, construction and architecture.

"We have already had a chance to conduct the first advanced training courses for directors and head teachers of the capital's schools. The first 50 people have passed these courses, and tomorrow they will receive their certificates confirming the improvement of their skills," Zikerin said.

He added that after the opening, the university will be taught mainly by foreign specialists, but it is assumed that in the future kazakhstani teachers will join the ranks of teachers.


According to Deputy Prime Minister Eraly Tugzhanov, the construction of this university is necessary to strengthen the current staff and eliminate the shortage of qualified employees.

"In January of this year, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to open branches of advanced foreign universities in Kazakhstan. This measure is necessary to strengthen the current staff and eliminate the shortage of qualified employees, improve the quality of knowledge and human capital," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Recall that the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in January of this year instructed to open at least 5 branches of advanced foreign universities in Kazakhstan by 2025.
