Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageA warning has been issued in Kazakhstan regarding a new scheme to hack into Telegram accounts, El.kz reports.
Users are receiving messages from "Telegram Support," claiming that a request to delete their account has been received.
The scammers state that the deletion can only be canceled within 24 hours, pressure-selling the user with the threat of losing all chats, files, contacts, and the profile itself.
To "save" the account, the user is prompted to click a button, follow a link, or open a Telegram bot. They are then asked to enter a confirmation code received via SMS or a messenger notification.
The Prosecutor General's Office warned that no such process for canceling account deletion through third-party websites or bots exists. By entering the code, the user is essentially handing over full access to their account to the fraudsters.
Once the account is compromised, attackers can read private messages, access personal data, and message contacts while impersonating the owner.
How to protect your account
Users are advised never to share confirmation codes or passwords with anyone. Do not enter Telegram credentials on third-party websites or in bots, even if the message appears urgent.
It is also highly recommended to enable two-step verification and regularly check "Active Sessions" in the "Devices" section of the app. If an unrecognized connection is found, it should be terminated immediately.
