A solemn celebration of Nauryz Meiramy took place at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ethiopia, El.kz cites MFA.
The celebration was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the House of Federation of the Parliament, the House of People's Representatives of the Parliament of Ethiopia, ambassadors of foreign states, members of the Kazakhstan’s Friends club, as well as Ethiopian Mass Media.
Opening the event, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia and Kenya (concurrently), Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the African Union, Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Nairobi Barlybay Sadykov warmly congratulated all participants and spoke about the new format of celebrating Nauryz Meiramy in Kazakhstan.
«Nauryz is celebrated in Kazakhstan as a traditional New Year. Starting this year, at the suggestion of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Nauryz holiday in Kazakhstan is celebrated for 10 days – from March 14 to March 23. The decade was named «Nauryznama». Each day has its own name and meaning, which corresponds to the content of the Nauryz holiday» - the Ambassador noted.
According to him, March 21 is celebrated annually in the world as the International Day of Nauryz. It is an ancient holiday marking the beginning of spring, the renewal of nature and is celebrated in many regions of the world, including the Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, Iran, Pakistan, India and other countries. Nauryz promotes the values of peace, family, reconciliation and good neighborliness, promotes cultural diversity, friendship between peoples.
The Kazakh diplomat noted that this year the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the Christian fast of Khudade Tsome coincided with the celebration of Nauryz. He reminded the guests of the all-encompassing cultural significance of the Nauryz holiday, thanks to which it was included in the representative list of UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.
During the event, participants were able to enjoy the sound of traditional Kazakh Melodies – «Saryarka», «Adai», «Kunilashar», «Balbirauyn», «Dayrabaidyn kuyi», feel the flavor of Kazakh traditional clothing, as well as try such traditional Kazakh dishes as «Nauryz kozhe», «beshbarmak», «kuyrdak», «bauyrsaks», and other dishes of Kazakh cuisine. In addition, the guests were shown a film about the celebration of Nauryz in Kazakhstan.
In general, the participants of the event noted the universal nature of the values carried by Nauryz Meiramy and congratulated each other on this holiday of Spring, peace, harmony and renewal. They wished the Kazakh people unity, peace, goodness and prosperity.
