Members of European Parliament interested in strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Kazakhstan

Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko met today with Standing Rapporteur of the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament for Central Asia Roman Haider, El.kz cites MFA.

The parties exchanged views on the prospects of political, trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU, including cooperation with sectoral structures of the European Parliament such as the Committee on International Trade (INTA) and the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN).

Deputy Minister Vassilenko highlighted that the political reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev opened a new stage in the development of Kazakhstan and laid a solid foundation for structural reforms in the economy. He also mentioned that the focus of the state has now shifted towards addressing pressing economic issues, including the need for systemic diversification of the economy.

Haider, in turn, emphasized the importance of expanding the agenda of interparliamentary contacts between Kazakhstan and the EU, including in the framework of the upcoming 20th meeting of the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee “Republic of Kazakhstan – the European Union” in Brussels.
